My husband Gerd and I arrived here on Langkawi in November 2005 on our sailing yacht DADDELDU and decided to settle down for a while.  Since we arrived here after six years of extensive sailing almost around the world, this decision meant to start a completely new life. Langkawi gave us the chance to build up our charter business and we are grateful for that. But as we sail around in this area a lot, we always notice that there is far too much debris floating in the water, spoiling the beaches and other touristy spots on the island. We came to the conclusion that we should give something back to Langkawi and have initiated the set up of a Non Governmental Organisation, Kampung Hijau, which in Malay means: Green Hill.
Our aim is to help cleaning the beaches and other areas of Langkawi on a regular basis.
We had a clean up in Cenang Beach a few weeks back and a lot of expatriates and locals joined to help. Next clean up will be on the 13th of October on Pulau Beras Bazar. We will meet at 9 am at Porto Malay at the Jetty Point. Tourism Action Council is helping us to organize this event and will arrange the pick up for the volunteers by boat and get us to the island. They will provide gloves and garbage bags. We plan to have the island cleaned up and check it on a regular basis. We will a
lso try to provide more rubbish bins for the island.

The Andaman Resort approached us a few days ago and charted our yacht for a newly wed young couple from England.
Complementary we gave them one extra hour for this sunset dinner cruise as we new that the tide would be too low to make a private beach drop in the later afternoon. So Gemma and Booby came in the early afternoon and had no idea about the itinerary that we had planed for them.

Dear Friends of Langkawi,
Since almost 3 years year we live her in Langkawi and we feel part of this beautiful island. Taking our guests out for private beach drops it often worries us to see so much garbage. It comes up from the Straits of Melacca, Thailand our from our own people. It is not our aim to blame anybody for that; it is just that we want to help to make a change for the future. The Tourism Action Council was very helpful to start up a project to clean up Langkawi. They need a lot of volunteer and I hope I can convince some of you to help. Together with the Langkawi Tourism Action Council we are organizing the first volunteer clean-up of the island that is open to everyone.

When we arrived here in Langkawi in November 2005 the wet market was still a simple street market downtown Kuah. But then the authorities moved the wet market from downtown Kuah to an area at the end of Kuah. The building looks more like a bus station. It is a simple big building with a red roof and a large parking area in front. As I have to do a lot of fresh shopping, I go there several times a week and I love doing it. The morning hours for me are the best but the market opens from 7 am until 2 pm, then closes a few hours and opens again at 4 pm until 7 pm; seven days a week.

Our company gets more and more inquiries for corporate events, weddings and larger groups. One of the vessels we take out frequently is our schooner KAYU MANIS. She was built in a traditional Asian style and looks very classy. Ample space on deck and below makes it easy to hostess for up to 65 guests.
Just a few days ago we had a tour with a group from the Datai resort. They wanted to be catered by Alex from The Tapaz Bar.

This time our guests came from the Andaman resort. They originally wanted to go on a motor yacht but I managed to convince them to go with us. Of course our sailing boat has a strong engine – 90 horsepower, excuse me! Often the wind in Langkawi comes either from the wrong direction or we have no wind at all; in other words we have to use the engine anyway.

The Bon Ton gave as a call a few days ago and asked if we would be willing and capable to take a family with 5 little children. Of course this is no problem at all for us and we always see a chance to make future captains out of the little ones and to open their eyes for the beauty of being on the water with a yacht, especially in Langkawi.

Today I met an English lady that I met first about a year ago. She lives here on the island since a couple of years, built her own house and enjoys her life.
When I had met her the first time, she told me that she was in the process to built 3 little houses to rent them out. Her place is ready now and I think it is a great value for money! The garden is still in work but I would say that this place is a very nice alternative to a normal resort.
